15 Questions, 15 Short Answers

What is lip filler?

It is the injection of hyaluronic acid-based gel products into the lip tissue or along the lip border with a fine needle or cannula. It aims to give the lips natural volume, moisture and shape, and it is also used to correct asymmetry.

Which product is used for lip filler?

Hyaluronic acid-based fillers that carry the CE mark and are registered in ÜTS as medical devices in Turkey are used. Hyaluronic acid is a molecule found naturally in the body. At Dr. Doğan Uysal's clinic the name of the product to be used is shared at the consultation.

Who is lip filler suitable for, and who should not have it?

It can be given to people over 18 in good general health. The treatment is postponed during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and when there is an active cold sore on the lip or an active skin infection; it is not performed in people with an allergy to hyaluronic acid or lidocaine. In cases such as use of blood thinners the decision is made after the physician's assessment.

Does lip filler hurt, and how long does the treatment take?

Numbing cream is applied before the treatment and the filler used at the clinic contains lidocaine; even so, you may feel stinging or pressure. Lip filler generally takes 15–30 minutes.

When is the result of lip filler seen?

The change can be noticed right after the treatment; however, because of swelling the look in the first days is not final. The final shape of the lips settles in 1–2 weeks.

How long does lip filler last?

It lasts about 8–12 months on average. Because the lips move constantly, filler is metabolised here relatively faster than in deeper areas such as the cheeks and chin; the duration varies from person to person.

Can lip filler be reversed?

Yes. Hyaluronic acid-based lip filler can be partly or completely dissolved with the enzyme hyaluronidase. Dissolving is a separate procedure, which is why the first session starts with a measured amount.

How many ml of lip filler is used?

There is no single right amount; 1 ml equals 1 cc. The amount is set according to the structure of the lips, the facial proportions and the goal; the first session starts conservatively and, if needed, a top-up is planned 2–4 weeks later. For details see our article on how many ml of lip filler is used.

What are Russian lips, and how do they differ from classic lip filler?

Russian lips is a technique in which the filler is placed vertically in the lip; the lip is lifted upward rather than pushed forward, aiming for a defined, heart-shaped but natural look. With both approaches a measured, personalised amount comes first; which one suits you is decided at a face-to-face assessment.

Lip filler or lip Botox (lip flip)?

They do not aim for the same result: filler gives volume and shape in the target area, while lip Botox (lip flip) aims at a slight definition of the upper lip. The two can be planned together; for details see our article on whether filler and Botox can be done at the same time.

What are the side effects of lip filler?

Swelling, redness, bruising and tenderness are common and usually settle within a few days. Less often a cold sore flare-up, a nodule, infection or an allergic reaction can occur; rarely, the filler can enter a blood vessel. For which symptoms are expected and which are urgent, see our article on what is normal and what is not after lip filler.

What should I pay attention to after lip filler?

For the first 24 hours do not press on the lips or wear makeup on the lip area; on the first day avoid very hot or very cold food and drinks; for the first 48 hours avoid intense exercise, sauna and steam bath; postpone a dentist visit for at least 2 weeks.

How do I choose a doctor who performs lip filler in Mersin?

Look at whether the person performing the treatment is a medical doctor, their filler-injection training, the product name and registration, whether the clinic keeps hyaluronidase, and the follow-up plan. For our 10-question checklist see our article on doctors who perform lip filler in Mersin.

How is the price of lip filler determined?

The price of filler is set individually according to the area treated, the product, the amount (ml) and the plan. Clear information is shared at the first consultation, after your facial analysis; no procedure you do not need is recommended. To compare offers see our value-for-money guide.
